10 Common Things You Should Absolutely Never Do To Your Hair In Winter

Keeping hair healthy is difficult no matter what time of the year it is. But in the dead of winter? Itcan almost feel like your hair has given up on you!

If you find yourself tying your hair back more during the winter months because of how dry and damaged it is, you’re not alone. It’s commonfor hair to dry out during this time of year, but it’s certainly not healthy.

You may think that the only option is to wait for summer to come around, with its heavy, humid heat to keepyour locksnice and hydrated. However, there are some things that you can do to help combat the winter blues besides just saying “to heck with it”and chopping it all off.

Scroll through below to see 10 things you should stop doing to your hair during winter. With these simple tips, you’ll surely notice a huge difference in how strong your hair is, despite the blistering cold outside.

Did we miss anything from our list? Let us know in the comments.

1. Use Scalding-Hot Water

1.

Yes, it feels sogreat to come in from a cold day and hop into a steaming-hot shower.

However, when it comes time to wetyour head, you might want to tone the temperature down a bit, lest you scorch your hair and dry it out, causing even more breakage than if you were to use lukewarm water.

2. Bleach It Platinum Blonde

2.

Winter isn’t the time to go blonde, as it’s incredibly damaging to the hair. For minimal distress, stay darker for the winter months and wait for the more humid months to process your hair so heavily. Your follicles and your stylist will both thank you.

If you’re a die-hard bleached blonde, maybe look at the winter as an opportunity to explore atransformation to brunette. Who knows it could be fun!

3. Rush Out The Door Without Drying

3.

If you’ve done this before, you know that your wet hair can actually freeze pretty quickly. When this happens, your hair cuticles can actually freeze too, and that causes damage and breakage.

Make sure that you have enough time to properly dry your hair before you step outside.

4. Get A Cut That Requires A Lot Of Styling

4.

If you’re going for a new look this winter, try one that requires little to no upkeep. The more you fuss with your hair, the more it will get damaged and break, which already happens way too much in the cold.

Hassle-free cuts arethe way to go in the wintertime!

5. Straighten Or Curl It Daily

5.

It’s no mystery that styling tools damage your hair, but it’s even worse in the winter months, when your hair is already lacking moisture and strength.

Try letting your natural texture out a couple days each week, at least. Maybe you will even learn to love your natural tresses!

6. Choose The Wrong Hat

6.

If you wear a hat to shield your hair from the cold and the wind, then you might stand a better chance against breakage.

However, you should line your cotton and wool hats with a material like silk, because harshermaterialscan rub against the strands of hair and make them more susceptible to damage.

7. Skip The Protectant

7.

If you do use heat tools, even just a hair dryer, you should be using heat protectant on your hair. It coats each follicle and shieldsit from some of the damage ofyour styling tools.

This is important all year long really, but it’sextra crucial during the cold months when your hair is even more delicate. You should also make sure to give your hair extra oil treatments and masks in the wintertime to combat the dryness.

8. Over-Shampoo

8.

Shampooing every day can result in a dry scalp, and in winter, the repercussions are even worse than in the rest of the year.

You’ll get itchy and dandruffy if you shampoo more than every three days (give or take, depending on the individual). Some even think you shouldstop shampooing altogether, but that’s a bit extreme for my personal taste.

9. Keep The Humidifier In The Closet

9.

This may not seem like a harmful thing foryour hair, but keeping a humidifier running in your home canhelp rehydrate your tresseswhile you sleep or do chores.

It’s really a wonder that they don’t sell humidifiers in the hair section during the winter!

10. Use Static Guard Or Dryer Sheet Hacks

10.

If you try to treat thestatic in your hair that comes from wearinghats or hoods with temporary fixes (like with static guard or a dryer sheet), you could be doing a lot of harm. Static is an indicator that your hair is too dry.

Instead, double up your protectivetreatment with some leave-in conditioner after you’ve already conditioned in the shower.

Do you do any of these things to your hair in the winter? Did we miss anything from our list? Please SHARE with family and friends on Facebook!

She Pours Apple Cider Vinegar In A Container How She Uses It Really Surprises Me

Apple cider vinegar has a number of uses you probably dont know about.

These are definitely worth learning as they can easily improve your health and help out with ailments which suddenly may appear, like a sore throat or upset stomach.

Now you cannot use white, red, balsamic or other forms of vinegar, as the apple cider kind is the one which is associated with so many health benefits. Usually you will want the organic kind when taking it internally, but for cleaning purposes it doesnt matter. Take a look at these amazing benefits of apple cider vinegar:

Upset Stomach

If from a stomach virus or just a big meal, even mild food poisoning, apple cider vinegar can help greatly in calming the stomach and bringing it back to normal. Mix just a tablespoon in a glass of water and sip.

Weight loss

Yes, even weight loss can be aided by taking in some apple cider vinegar. Its an appetite suppressor which will give you that full type feeling after a regular meal, as opposed to craving more food which is the problem most people have with dieting. Blood sugar levels become more balanced as well.

Blood pressure

While its not for certain, many are indeed leaning towards apple cider vinegar being able to lower blood pressure. It is definitely worth a shot if you have high blood pressure and want to try something cheap and definitely effective in many other areas of health.

Sore throats

Use 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water and gargle for a few minutes. Then spit out. Gargle every hour in this manner to help rid yourself of the virus and the bacteria in your throat. You can also do a gargle to help with bad breath.

Colds, Congestion, or a Virus

The common cold can also be combatted with apple cider vinegar. Use a teaspoon and mix it in a glass of warm water and sip. You can also put it into a warm cup of tea. Have this mix every hour until you start to feel much better.

Morning Detox, Better Digestion

Look at this as an early morning detox drink for cleansing purposes. Use apple cider vinegar with lemon, cinnamon, honey and cayenne pepper. Take this before your coffee to detox the liver and kickstart your metabolism. You can actually do this as part of a 2 week detox program by consuming the above 3 times a day, 20 minutes before meals, and then after 2 weeks, continue to perform a maintenence dose once before breakfast.

Deodorant

Another great quality of apple cider vinegar is its ability to neutralize body odor. Heres how to make your own deodorant:

Take a glass spray bottle and put cup apple cider vinegar and 1 cup of water in it. Now you can also add fragrance to it by putting a few drops of a essential oil in it, like peppermint. There you go, your own homemade deodorant!

Skin lotion

Apple cider vinegar can work well for acne prone skin as it contains anti-inflammatory benefits. This can work well for rashes, bug bites and as a dry skin treatment as well. Use 2 tablespoons diluted with 1 cup of water and rub it on your skin, but stay away from eye contact.

Hair care

Even the hair can greatly benefit from an apple cider vinegar concoction. Take a few tablespoons and add it to a cup of water. Add it to your hair as part of a final rinse. Remember to avoid eye contact. Dont rinse it out again, keep the mixture in your hair and scalp as it will encourage the proper pH balance. This will lead to a healthier and shinier head of hair, while fighting off a dry scalp which causes dandruff to form.

Salad Dressing

Back to the basics! Apple cider vinegar serves as a great salad dressing. There are many recipes to follow. Heres one that is excellent:

1/2 cup of Apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon of onion powder
2 tablespoon of whole grain mustard or djion type mustard
2-3 cloves of garlic minced
1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
1 teaspoon salt

Keep in mind you can always add a little honey or even maple syrup if drinking it in water is not pleasing. Add some honey to warm water, then add the apple cider vinegar. A great little drink for the flu season.

Now some people might think just taking a shot of vinegar, then chasing it with water or honey water would be the way to go but its not, as taking in straight vinegar can harm the esophagus and take away your tooth enamel. Always dilute with liquids which are digestable.

There are so many wonderful ways to use apple cider vinegar to maintain and improve your health that for sure you want to have an organic bottle nearby at all times.

If you’re suffering from something like chicken pox or eczema, blending witch hazel with something like aloe may be very soothing and able to provide relief from the itching.

According toMercola, it should also help encourage sores to close and heal.

With bug bites, it works the same way, but with an added benefit: applying itbefore you’re bit can discourage blood-thirsty pests.

I was once chewing gum and blew a bubble that popped onto my glasses, and witch hazel was the only thingthat worked to get rid of the sticky film.

In addition to more unusual situations, it’s incredibly effective at clearing up everyday smudges without leaving streaks behind.

Soap and ordinary water leave marks behind, and a microfiber clothdoesn’t always cut it these are situations that call for a splash of witch hazel.

Use #5: Scrapes And Scratches

Use

Remember getting a skinned knee as a kid and having mom pour something on it that stung? There’s a good chance that was witch hazel.

Witch hazel is often used in conjunction with antiseptics like alcohol to clean minor abrasions.

Despite the initial sting, itcan almost instantly relieve the pain of a cut or scrape, and it encourages your skin to contract, which helps slowbleeding, according to WebMD, and jumpstarts the healing process.

Use #6: Tarnished Jewelry

Most of my jewelry is silver and I feel like I’m always dealing with tarnish.

Witch hazel is a great, simple way to touch up your jewelry when it starts to show its wear and tear.

While you should avoid using it on plated jewelry and soft stones like opal, it’s great for solid silver or bronze items that need a little bit of shine.

Use #7: Puffy Eyes

As an astringent, witch hazel is great at causing the skin to contract.

It may sound a bit funny, but this can work wonders for puffy, inflamed eyes after a bad night’s sleep.

The astringent properties will encourage inflammation and swelling to go down, leaving the skin around your eyes smooth and bright!
